This historic black and white photo from 1955 captures a young livestock exhibitor at the fair, showcasing the deep-rooted tradition of youth in agriculture. Dressed in a patterned Western-style shirt, jeans, and a crisp cowboy hat, the boy attentively feeds his well-groomed Hereford steer, symbolizing the dedication and care that exhibitors put into their animals. A fair badge pinned to his shirt reflects his official participation, emphasizing the role of agricultural education and competition in shaping future generations. The backdrop of a barn setting, complete with stall signs and bedding straw, adds to the authenticity of this timeless moment, celebrating the long-standing legacy of youth livestock exhibitions at the fair.
This black and white photo captures a young woman showing her steer for competition at the fair. Dressed in a satin shirt and wearing a belt with an ornate buckle, she focuses intently holding the halter on her animal. Her blonde hair flows over her shoulder, and she wears multiple wristbands and bracelets. The steer, calm and steady, stands beside her, its large eyes gazing forward. The blurred background showcases the show ring. This image beautifully reflects the dedication and hard work of youth involved in agricultural competitions.

Market Animal Drug Testing

In 2025, the WSF will continue drug testing Youth Market Beef, Goats, Swine, and Swine. For these market species, drug testing will be mandatory for the top five winners as well as randomly selected placements.

We value education, animal welfare, protecting the food chain, and fostering fair competition at the Wyoming State Fair. Drug testing is a valuable tool to help exhibitors and families to understand the possible implications of using substances on their animal.
